Monitor energy useage at the RJR Ranch, Pullman, WA (N46 40.558 W117 16.276 Elev: 2352 ft.) Equipment list: Sixteen Kyocera KC-130 solar panels, pole mounted in four groups of four panels. SMA 2500U power inverter in grid-tie configuration. System startup: May 19, 2008

Saturday, May 31, 2008

Time connected to the grid: 16 hrs
Electricity produced: 15.1 kWH's
Solar Energy: 580 Langley's (A Langley is a unit of measurement for total solar radiation)
Utility meter reads: 2227
Weather: Mostly sunny
Comment: I tested the electric production using a "semi-automatic" solar tracker. (Semi-automatic = I moved the panels every hour!) You can see from the data that we got about 25% more power.

"Semi-automatic" tracker in action. The time is about 9am. The panels are pointing virtually East, rather tha the normal South orientation.

(For Friday, May 30)

Time connected to the grid: 16 hrs
Electricity produced: 11.7 kWH's
Solar Energy: 575 Langley's (A Langley is a unit of measurement for total solar radiation)
Utility meter reads: 2228
Weather: Partly cloudy
Comments: Recharged 38 miles of driving. (Two trips to Pullman)

Sunday, May 25, 2008

Time connected to the grid: 16 hrs
Electricity produced: 12.7 kWH's
Solar Energy: 560 Langley's CORRECTED (A Langley is a unit of measurement for total solar radiation)
Utility meter reads: 2226
Weather: Partly cloudy with haze
Comments: Recharging VW (18 mile trip)

Saturday, May 24, 2008

Time connected to the grid: 14 hrs
Electricity produced: 12.3 kWH's
Solar Energy: 540 Langley's (A Langley is a unit of measurement for total solar radiation)
Utility meter reads: 2226 (See comments)
Weather: Partly cloudy with haze
Comments: Utility meter continues to read 2226, which indicated that we are using the same amount of power as we're producing. Today's load included recharging after a 39 mile trip in the electric VW. Essentially, we're getting FREE transportation. NO gasoline buying today.

Friday, May 23, 2008

Time connected to the grid: 10 hrs
Electricity produced: 3.2 kWH's
Solar Energy: 360 Langley's (1 Langley = 11.622 watt/hrs/sq/meter)
Utility meter reads: 2226
Weather: Very cloudy

Comments: System was OFF for several hours during final electrical inspection. (Passed!)

Thursday, May 22, 2008

Time connected to the grid: 8 hrs
Electricity produced: 6.40 kWH's
Solar Energy: 360 Langley's (1 Langley = 11.622 watt/hrs/sq/meter)
Utility meter reads: 2226
Weather: Cloudy
Comments: Low grid connect time was due to low solar radiation; Not enough to connect.

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Time connected to the grid: 13 hrs
Electricity produced: 11.20 kWH's
Solar Energy: 825 Langley's (1 Langley = 11.622 watt/hrs/sq/meter)
Weather: Cloudy
Utility meter reads: 2226

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Time connected to the grid: 16 hrs
Electricity produced: 2.08 kWH's
Solar Energy: 125 Langley's (1 Langley = 11.622 watt/hrs/sq/meter)
Weather: Overcast, rain, little solar energy
Utility meter reads: 2226
Time connected to the grid: 10.7 hrs
Electricity produced: 11.75 kWH's
Solar Energy: 575 Langley's (1 Langley = 11.622 watt/hrs/sq/meter)
Weather: Partly cloudy & hazy
Note: Drove my electric VW 23miles. Recharge required 8.5 kWH
My utility meter reads: 2226 (very slowly running backward)
